Farewell, Sweetpea

Today we put our beloved Paso Fino Mare, Sweetpea, to rest. She was a faithful sweet girl whom we loved with all our hearts. She will be missed. Rest well, old girl.

She came from Mississippi where she was one of many horses flooded out by Katrina. We bought her from the Arcadia Auction in 2008. She was thin and had a very deep saddle sore on her back. There was no light in her eyes. They were dull with hopelessness.

When Peg gave her some hay in the trailer, the first glimmer of life showed in her eyes. You wouldn't have recognized the little spitfire she became  as she healed, physically and mentally. She had personality plus and was sweet and loving. There was always a gratefulness about her.

I truly believe when you rescue an animal, you save a piece of yourself as well.
