Cow Sorting

Despite Cody's issues, we tried cow sorting last Saturday. What FUN!!!! We went to Plant City to Longhorn Arena. They have cow sorting every Saturday Night for $10.

At first Cody didn't want anything to do with the cows. He enjoyed looking at them but didn't want to go near them. T seemed to be catching on a lot faster. Dan and Diana helped us a lot.

Cody was locking a lot too and I had to explain multiple times what was going on with him. Especially the fact that the vet wants him ridden despite the locking. Since there was a lot of standing around, he was locking ALOT.

So on one of our turns, I said.. "Get the cow" and suddenly something clicked. Cody snaked his head at the cow like he does the goats when they are in his way, and the cow moved.

He was like OMG!!! Then he was all about chasing the cows! We just have to work on weaving in between them (he'll go right to a singled out one but doesn't like walking into the herd). I can't wait to try it again!

Four weeks of Estrone

Well Cody was on the Estone for four weeks and it didn't help. However, he didn't have good consistant work during that period. First we had a Tropical Event.. Debby. That lasted a week. Then we were flooded and the heat has been incredible. He's still catching badly and very unhappy. He locks at every couple of steps. His personality has changed so much. He's sullen and just plain miserable.

A Good Scare

Cody tried to give Peg and I heart failure. We were putting feed away, and while I was driving the truck through the gate, and Peg was guarding the gate with a whip, he zipped past (funny how he can zip around at a run but he can't walk without hitching his stifle) and ran through the front yard... straight out the front gate. Then proceeded to run around bucking and kicking (not hitching once) up and down the street, always turning RIGHT before he gets to Highway 31. Kept following and calling and finally he zipped back into the front yard and we closed him in. All moments before a thunderstorm exploded on top of us. Never a dull moment....
